First egg!! I'm fairly certain that it's from my 18 week old Black Australorp. I've caught her "practicing" in the nest box the past few days. She layed a perfect small pullet egg. My 23 week old buff orpingtons who are the oldest in my flock are taking their time.

This is the pictures of my first eggs laid last week 9-26 and 9-27, both were laid by my 17 week old australorp Big Moma. The one on the right is her first one, the one I'm holding is her second one. They were both double yolkers, and very delicious.

They are from our sweet hens Dhalia (buff orphington) and Hourus (Arracaunna). Way to go girls!

I finally got an egg!  Hurray.  I am so proud of Penny, my Rhode Island Red.  I am pretty sure it was her because her comb is bright red compared to the others, she's larger, and just has been acting like she's going to lay (even though I'm completely new at this).  Today I got my FIRST EGG of my life.  And it'll be the first fresh egg that I've ever had.  Any suggestions on how I should eat it?

Here is our first egg.  One of our girls laid it September 22, 2007.  It was very exciting.  Early in the morning, around sun up, the girls were raising a big commotion in the henhouse.  I ran out and looked in the window.  Lo and Behold, one had laid on egg in the middle of the floor and they were all standing in a circle around it making a lot of noise!

We got our 12 Barred Rocks as day-old peeps on May 2 of this year.  It's been a great learning experience.  We were totally unprepared at the time, and we didn't even know it!  It's been just over 4 weeks are we are now getting 8 to 11 eggs per day!
