I have a Sebastopol pair. He is definately more frisky than before. She is spending a lot of time in the dog house / duck house, but I have not seen any eggs. So when do they start laying? I am in Thurmont Maryland just North of DC.

Updated to re-phrase - At what age do Geese begin laying?

Thanks!

We are just heading into the goose and duck egg laying season, Ed. My geese have only been laying the past 2 weeks. Not everyone is giving me an egg and I don't get eggs every day.

Also - geese will bury their eggs if you don't know. You won't go out and find them sitting in a nest like chicken eggs. You will have to rake around in the bedding or the ground to find them. Look closely because the tops may only be barely visable to the eye. They do a great job of hiding them.

Did you see my colored sebbie incubation thread? I have candling photos.

I have 4 Embdens that I just got. I've seen them breeding, so should I be watching for eggs?

They are 3 females and a male and two of the females are the offspring from the older pair. Can the daughters be bred back to their father or should I separate them out?

Thank you!

Lucky you, kuntrygirl. Down therewere it is wrmer everything gets a faster start.

Would love to see photos of your geese on their nests.

In my experience with sebs, they do start laying the following year but the eggs are smaller, they don't lay as many as an older hen and the fertility is not as high. This is just my experience. Sounds like you are going to get eggs anytime. 2 of mine just started laying last week.

Yours should lay eggs this year for you if born last summer. I am not too far from you in Md. I have not yet had any eggs laid, but mating behavior has begun ! Good luck !!!
