I cannot find how to post pictures. One of my barred rock chicks has a larger white blotch on head, noticeably more white in new feathering, and mostly orange beak. But..... Fairly large amount of black on the legs. Tiny comb still at 2.5 weeks. I ordered five females. From description, could this still be a pullet? My son chose this chick from a day old as his own, and he wants to show it in 4 h. Any tips are appreciated!

A couple other chicks that were ordered straight run ( welsummers) have impressively large combs, red, already at 2.5 weeks. This gives me hope that my questionable barred rock is perhaps a pullet as ordered.

I have 10 sexed female Barred rocks. They are just about ready to lay now. They started squatting for me this week. Two things ive noticed about my females. They ALL HAVE dark staining down thefront of their legs to the top of their feet. They had this since hatch and its stayed until adulthood. Another constant ive noticed about the females is that they ALL appear to be black with white barring, where the males genetics make them appear a lighter grey with white barring. Hope this helps a bit. Also if you have a male and a female side by side the color difference between the grey appearance and black appearance will be significant. The female looking black and the male looking grey.it will stand out.Best wishes.

Thank you for your info. Her black is as dark as the others. That makes me feel good. She sure has a lot more, and wider, white barring. Her legs have always been just like her sisters'. I will just have to keep an eye on her as she develops.
