anyone heard of crock pot incubation?

Crock pot idea
Could you put something (a thick bowl) under the ceramic pot so that it does not touch the heating elements in the crockpot, i.e. so that the ceramic crock pot sits a couple of inches up off the floor of the heating part?
Just a thought

I believe it would be possible to make an incubator with a heating pad no problem. They do still make heating pads without automatic shut off (and these are usually the least expensive

) you just have to be careful to find out. The best way to check is to actually go to amazon and check the ratings, someone usually comments on that fact. I think the low setting on most heating pads is about 102. So depending on if the incubator actually gets that temp, it could work. Heating pads are actually pretty consistent too, so that might work out great! Good luck!

I used a heating pad befor, I just had a low hatch rate. But I think a big part of that was how I had it set up. It was in the top of a night stand, I think a rubber made tup would work better, and I had the eggs on top. If I can find the cord I'm going to test a crock pot we have the would not get as hot as it should.

I am setting up a crock pot I bought second hand for an incubator. I make my own mostly so I didn't need this crock pot idea but I thought I would give it a go.
I started to heat it up for my 24 hr test, but then I decided to put it in the cooler to keep it warm.

This is what the dial looks like... I heard you should barely turn it on so the light comes on then back of a smidge till the light goes out if this is not warm enough I will try it till light comes on.

above is what is going in incubator thermometer, hot water, wire for bottom of crock pot so it doesn't burn eggs, and carton. eggs will go in if it tests well, I am planing on LO eggs.

this plastic nub will go between the lid rim to allow for air...

Wish me luck.

This will keep me busy while I am waiting for other eggs to hatch, this week and next week.

Ok I know this is a really old thread but I was thinking abouta crock pot too and started reading and researching. So after reading this I am setting up my electric roaster oven to see if I can get the temp to hold steady around 100 and if so I may attempt to use it to incubate til lockdown. By then the ones I have in my bator will be hatched.

I chickened out and one week in switched to a foam incubator but 7/7 hatched, I think it is a good way to heat up the eggs of I want to add more to an incubator.
