I have a buff orpington roo ( almost a year old)  that needs a home.  I am not going to breed any BOs so he needs to go.  He is a good boy, not mean.  Anyone want him?

Just got back from picking up some hay at Metcalf's in Cornish. I was also supposed to pick up a few chicks I had pre-ordered. I hadn't received a call that they were in which I thought was a bit odd. Once I got there I found out why. The store's entire chick order was sent to somewhere in South Carolina. sad.png Hopefully someone done south is taking care of them and they will find homes.

I could hear someone in the back making calls to let people know their chicks were not here and that they wouldn't be here until next Friday. And he had many, many calls to make if the number of order slips I saw were any indication. The person who waited on me was surprised that I wasn't livid when I heard the news and that I was okay with having to wait another week since so many other customers had not been so understanding. I just said that I knew it wasn't their fault and getting angry wasn't going to solve anything. One more week was not a big deal. But to many it was a big deal since Sunday is Easter and how dare the chicks not arrive in time for the holiday. Hopefully those people decided to cancel their orders since if all they wanted was to have chicks for Easter than those birds didn't stand a chance.

I picked some chicks up from the PO today, took 2 days to get here. The woman at my PO wanted to look at them and was hesitant to look in the box. Apparently they have already gotten 3 boxes of chicks this week that were all dead and one for TSC was there and they said it was a 3 layer box and the whole bottom layer was dead sad.png . Mine were all alive and well thankfully, I too was nervous as they were supposed to be here yesterday by 3 hmm.png . Not a good week for shipped chicks up here I guess....

I also received some shipped chicks on Wednesday from Cackle. I did have a few losses during shipping or soon after but mostly with my Salmon Faverolles. I lost one cockerel and four pullets out of the seven I had ordered. I also lost one of the Bourbon Red turkey poults and a couple or the other chicks. The rest of the order is so far doing well. If anything I was expecting the turkeys to have issues with the trip not the chicks. I have to call Cackle back tomorrow with the update. I called yesterday and the operator said to give the peeps until Saturday and call back with a final live count. Then I can decide if I want to reship or refund. I am leaning towards the reship but I would have to add seven more to the order to meet the 15 minimum. But since I want the SF I guess I will have to break down and order a few more. This is how chicken math gets one into trouble. lau.gif

I wonder if it has anything to do with the post office changes in shipping length?

I don't know if this helps any or not, but I saw a listing for Salmon Faverolles on CL today, right over in Windham.  http://maine.craigslist.org/grd/2933498769.html
