How often should the coop be cleaned. And is straw or something used. I want to keep down the odor.
 
Just like anything else, the more you clean out their litter, the less smell there will be. Some people here use the deep litter method... I don't so I don't know what it's about.
The best litter that I've found is PINE shavings. Don't use cedar because it is toxic to chickens.

During most of the year I change the shavings every week. This winter I tried the deep liter method for the last couple of months since I had tons of snow and ice outside cleaning would have been hard. I just put clean shavings on top of the dirty every week. That was all fine until we had a couple of warm days last week and all of the sudden it didn't smell to good. I did a good clean out and all is back to normal.

Barnyarndog.......Thanks so much for the info on SweetPDZ. I had read a few times on here about it, but was a little leary of useing it, I wasnt sure how it would affect the younger chicks. Seems I wont have to worry....thanks so much...I can use it in my parakeets cages as well! GREAT!

I am getting 50 chicks hopefully tomorrow. They were shipped out on Wednesday and were supposed to be here today.
 
LOL; yep turning into one of you Carrie Brown! I'm loving my chickens and they love me back especially when I throw them old bread and slop. I've been spoiling them quite often with a couple heads of lettuce everyother day or so. The other day I got 20 eggs. So far today I've gotten 14. Thank God as I am getting egg orders coming outta my ears. LOL! I give to my pastor but I sell to everyone else.
