Daytime predator

Just wondering what killed my pullet yesterday.  It was still daylight.  I had let the chickens out to free range and we returned to farm before dusk to find the dead pullet. Feathers from breast area had been pulled out and a bite taken out of the breast.

We had raccoons last year...last year they ate  the whole thing or drag the body off.  We have seen alot of possums this year.  Since it is in the country we hear coyotes and there are hawks, owls and vultures...I'm thinking a possum, but how often do they kill during the day?  Now I'm reluctant to let the birds free range.

I am going with a bird of prey.  It probably started feeding and got scared off.
A coyote or fox would have carried the carcuss off.
