My "broiler" chickens -pics-

aww it looks like you are doing a very good job of caring for them.

I went through the same dilema. Went to a feed store seen some cute chicks. Begged to get them. lol I had no clue about chickens. They were the sweetest little boogers. They were named Boo and Ozzie. Mine were black Cornish Crosses believe it or not. In a bin full of white chicks there was two little black and white ones so those are the ones I picked. They liked to be held and spoiled, I didn't know a thing about 'meat' chickens, or them requiring a special diet. Both were roosters, and they were HUGE. Anyway, one day Boo took it upon himself to bite the back of my leg. And I guess he found it funny cause after that my sweet little roo would sneak up and bite you. (Yes Bite. Not spur) So when they were around 9 months old, we sold them because Boo would just not stop biting. lol

I loved them. But I won't be buying anymore cornish crosses unless I plan to sell because I couldn't dream of killing them, and with my gazillion other animals I wouldn't have time to give them the care you do. lol

I will always remember Boo and Ozzie though. I loved those big birds. Too bad I never got any pictures.

OH DARN IT! I have 25 freedom rangers in the mail I'm expecting today or tomorrow....this makes it harder then ever to send them off to the butcher

I hope I can do it! Hubby will kill me if I don't LOL

Oh and I forgot to add. It's 96+ degrees outside here in Illinois. Yes exactly as you stated. When you walk outside, it is like a heat slap. And we have like 55%+ humidity. So it's sticky, and hot. Ugh.

I feel so bad for all my animals in the summer. My horses are sweating just standing around, my dog is like breathing a hundred miles an hour, and my goats, and chickens are panting very hard. It seems no matter if your in the shade or not, it's impossible to escape the heat.

I wish I could bring them all inside.

And the worst part is, it's only going to get hotter. Yuck

That sounds like NC summer weather. We're supposed to hit 100 tomorrow and the humidity is almost unbearable. Ugh! I don't know how much longer my meaties are going to be around in this kind of weather. They have plenty of shade but that humidity is just awful.
