Do chickens like apples???

We have a lot of apple trees and the chickens always eat the ones fallen and damaged by the lawnmower....seeds and all. All looking as fit this year as every other year.

I think that not all of the apple pips get digested as I see them in the poop.

Coming to think about it, I always eat the apple pips, too. I eat 2 or 3 apples a day and have done so for the last 45 years.....

.....I should be dead....maybe I am dead.....I do prefer dark to light.......OH BOY!

Our Chickens free range, make there daily migration to the apple orchard, eat apples with no ill effects.
The chicken get their fill pretty fast then head off to find other sources of food.
Deer are in the orchard nightly eating seeds and all, we feed damaged apples to the horses by the bucket full all week.

I'm glad smalltownchick posted that. Ours don't like them. When I include apple cores in their snack, they eat around them. If they've eaten everything else, they might give the core a few pecks. That's all. Bok.

Well, since you revived the thread anyway, I read through some of it and it got me to wondering: If Cyanide is in apple seeds naturally, is this the reason that apple juice has cyanide in it? Remember the babble created last week on the Dr OZ Show when he exposed some fruit juice companies as having excess cyanide in their apple juice? Could it just be that they pulverize the seeds and use everything in the juice? That should be easy to fix, I would think. More expensive to produce, but still do-able.

I was thinking the same thing, but isn't it arsenic that's in apple seeds? Or is it both?

OK. I just asked my Hubs and he said it was arsenic that the Dr Oz show was about. So, My Bad. sorry.......

In which case you're still right, that could explain why there are higher levels of arsenic in the juice...
