TSC Minimum Chick Limit - Page 4

Why does the law dictate how many chicks you have to buy?

If you can't have 6 or don't need 6 is it not possible for you to find someone in your area to buy with you? There are other places that don't have a min requirement.

TSC is - IMO - doing a good thing by requiring people to have a min purchase. There are too many people who impulse buy and then abandon the "cute" little baby animal when it is grownand not so cute anymore.

Animals of any kind should always be treated as an investment - life time - not just a whim because your kid or you just "had to have one". Look at all the animals who end up in shelters and pounds adn are euthanized every day because soembody wanted a cute cuddly puppy until it grew up to eat your couch or carpet!

This is a classic case of a rule being implimented against the masses because there are some people who can't do things properly. Unfortunately, it only takes one rotten apple to spoil the bunch.

I went to Big R to buy one duckling. I only needed one so my hatchling would have a brooder buddy. I got one. Took about 3 seconds. No hassles, no extra expense.

7 quacking ducks, 5 spazzy quail, 3 lazy cats, 2 grown sons, 1 goofy husband... and no partridge, but I have a pear tree!

I went to Rural King tonight and they have only 9 broilers left.  I asked them if they would sell the 9 - they won't I have to buy 25 - meaning I would have to choose more chicks of breeds I am not interested in and they won't have more until the end of April.  Helllllllo! smack

I'm going to TSC on April 6th - they have a 6 chick min and I'm getting my broilers there if they carry them.  I only want 10 broilers - for a family of 3, that's plenty of chicken for the entire summer for us (in addition to what's in the freezer already).

Also "colored" critters are also against law to sell.

6 minimum in WV - was just there today.  The sign said the 6 chick minimum was per state law.

Incidently,  early February, the store manager told us they'd have baby chicks on March 25. Then we were told April 1 on March 23 (we were picking up food for our chicks that were being shipped on the 25th). Today, because I didn't see any when I went in for more chick food - they said Sunday, April 5.

I know back in February the manager said that they were supposed to be coming from Ideal Hatchery.

Wonder if Ideal can't keep up with the orders?

Just pay for six chicks but take only the chicks you need. At $2 each it won't break the bank and then you won't have a couple of chicks to get rid of either!

This is the same in NYC. I didn't realize that there were people who dyed the chicks to sell them until I saw that Animal Cops show and they had to confiscae a whole bunch of chicks at a pet store because they had been dyed.

Again, it's for the same reasoning - to keep people from impulse buying an animal and then abandoing it when it's not cute anymore or is inconvenient because it grew up.

I am also going to TSC to purchase chicks this year.  This is the first time I have purchased chicks this way.  I am fine with purchasing 6 if I can stop at 6.  My question is do the have the chicks seperated by sex or am I going to have to take a chance on what sex I get?

2 children, 3dogs, 2 cats and now 65 chickens.   Love them all, but the chickens are cheapest entertainment.
