Micro Farm Coop Worklog [UPDATE: SHINGLES ON - PAGE 27]

See... We're moving the 2 year old boxes of stuff from the basement that we don't need into the garage, and the shop tools into the basement in prep for a yardsale.. Once the sale is done I get to strip the garage walls and prep for cellulose insulation..

I wish ours could wait, but really can't. Insulating the garage and attic needs done before the cold weather hits. Besides.. Tax break this year.

I feel like such a slacker.. My chickens hate me!

On the bright side, all the run panels are done now and ready to seal. I decided to go with a modular run that I can expand or rearrange as I see fit.

Here are the base panels being laid out, glued and screwed together.

The finished panels leaning up against the Pecan tree. I've got to get them sealed and then painted.

Two panels side by side to see how they will look. I think they'll work pretty well indeed.

Aggravated rooster. All things considered though, they've been fine with their coop.

One of the happy chickens.. I must say the red sex-links are my FAVE birds.. They even win over the Barred Rocks now.

Once I get this all painted I'll be shingling the coop so I can move onto other things.

Seems like a common thing.. Once the chickens are in the coop, work drags on. Guess the "OMG, they need a HOUSE!" wore off once they had a place to stay in.

They're more than comfortable and dealt with daily.. Just no outside time or shingles yet..

Shingles are in the trunk and waiting for a dry day though..

EDIT: Eh, just realized which coop was yours... Killer work on that thing, in case I hadn't said it before. Quite the inspirational job.

Only 130 days old and I've got a first egg... Huh.

Any way to figure out WHO laid it?

You don't know how good it feels to know there are others out there in kind of the same predicament as I am. I don't have chicks, but I have 6 5 week old ducks still on my enclosed porch, because I can't seem to get their darn enclosure done. It's been months I've been working on it. I am sick of cleaning out their inside pen, they are too big for it anymore and are getting bored.......I work on it as much as I can, and I always think "tomorrow it will be done!", but something comes up and now it feels like it never will get done! I got the ducks thinking it would only take me a few days to get the outside coop done......well, I kept enlarging it, and that created more problems to work around, and maybe I am getting old, it just seems that a few years ago I would have whipped it out in a few days. Now I guess I just move too slow!

And then.........here I sit................guess I'd better get out there and back to work!

Violet22, Isn't it funny how BYC gives us all these great ideas, but then we spend too much time on BYC to do the work!!

I have a good excuse today, its 101 outside!

DarkWolf, We're always encouraged by your work ethic. If you do it, we shall follow ( really slowly!)
