Soap Makers Reference Thread

Try the goatsmilk soap.  I'm much the same with overly sensitive skin, and my hide just loves the stuff.  If you can't get fresh milk, you can use the canned stuff.  I don't have a recipe yet though, will be making it for the first time this year.

Ooooooooooh that's a great idea. I will look for a goat's milk recipe and buy some canned milk. Thanks!

I'm just starting to collect the supplies for soap making----

Kuntry girl , did you ever make a batch of milk soap???

I too need to be careful about lotions and soaps--

Thank you OP for the extensive resource list.

Anyone doing any soapmaking lately? I have made several kinds lately.

I am planning to make some goats milk soap also (beginning soaper:)), would fresh include the pasteurized stuff in the grocery store?

I subscribe to SoapMakersResource and get tutorials in my email all the time, but haven't gotten around to making soap yet. It's at the top of my to do list, but I get sidetracked onto other projects.

To make goat's milk soap (I used to make 200 bars a day when I had my business) you can use any recipe and just replace the water with the milk. You can use the stuff from the grocery store or fresh. The way I did it was to freeze it into ice cube trays and use it frozen. Just weight out the cubes and add the lye to the frozen milk. One caveat with this method. You must keep stirring it. If you let it sit, it will burn the milk. So just be patient and stir every minute or two until all the milk is melted and the everything is well mixed. At that point it will be cool enough to add to your cooled oils. I never gelled my soaps and whenever I make GM soap I soap at very cool temps. HTHs.
