A friend of mine got permission from a local farmer he knows to pick up some rice around his grain bins that had been spilled and was just going to be wasted. He said we could have as much as we could haul! We went and filled the bed of my truck up TWICE! It is good rice too, nothing was wrong with it. I put it in the barn and I have been giving the chickens a big scoop of it every morning and they LOVE it! They eat it like its corn! If I just give them a little bit everyday, it wont hurt them will it? Im assuming that its ok to feed them. I have so much of it and it was FREE! What do you guys think? Is it ok to feed them?

Thanks for your opinions!

I've fed mine rice both cooked and raw for years about 1x per week. They love it and I want some free rice too.

The reason rice isn't thrown at weddings is an old wives tale that it will swell up in bird stomachs and they will explode. yeah right! It was an April fools joke printed in a newspaper back on the East coast I believe in the 1950s. Kinda like when the BBC ran a documentary about growing pasta trees. Thousands tried to order the trees so they could grow their own pasta.

As long as it is still in the hull(known as rough rice) it is OK. It doesn't offer much nutrional value. Mostly used in feed just as a filler. There are thousands of acres of rice around where I live.
