Is there a reason ,other than their compact cuteness, that I would choose a bantum over a standard size? I would imagine the eggs are smaller from the bantum?

I am getting ready to order, and realized I have no idea about this!

I dont see what is so great about bantams....
There eggs are tiny, they are tiny, and MINE arent very friendly!
But for some reason I got more, so there must be something good about them!!

You can fit more bantams into a hen house. Yes the eggs are smaller, they make the best bite sized pickled eggs! I keep a few in my coop just for that, and their broody qualities

I've heard people say that they are good for brooding and even though their eggs are small you are also feeding them MUCH less than standard.

Bantams rule!!!!

Bantams rule!!!!!

That's all we've got is bantams. Love love them, and ours are super tough LOL. They don't know they're small!!!!! They'll take on anything, and ours aren't friendly either (but we don't really want them to be). I plan on making me some friendly pet bantams out of this batch of chicks I've got now

So if egg laying/consumption is a big part of our wanting chickens, we should probably avoid bantums (even though they are pretty darned adoreable:D)?
