Phoenix chicken

Thread Starter

I ordered 25 assorted chicks from Murray McMurray Hatchery and was sent a gift of a Phoenix chicken.  I ordered all females and am very worried that this 8 week old bird may be a male.  I have looked at all kinds of pictures, but can not conclude anything.  Any help?  It is a silver phoenix.

David,
Can you post a picture of the Phoenix?

(I am going to move your post over to the Breeds section.)

David the males and hens both feather in differently. Your silver male will in the end be black bodied and with silver saddles, neck feathers and wing band. The females are very drab more of a silverish brown penciled with no brightness persae over all. The females neck feathers at maturity will be brighter but still only silver penciled. Hope this helps.

This would be a McMurray Silver Phoenix rooster at 2 years old.
