DE is Diatomaceous Earth. Do a search on Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth. You'll probably be amazed! I was. I don't wanna ever be without it.

Has anyone ever had luck finding or ordering food grade DE from a Tractor Supply Store?

Thank you Chickiepoo!

From my reading of another post with a website address, I was able figure out what this stuff is and it's uses. It sounds like the way to go not only for my birds, but also for my dogs and their flee issues.

Thanks again!

I have had NO LUCK using DE for fleas (on cats)
The fleas are so bad this year! My son and I look like leppers or something we are both highly allergic. The DE didnt help at all, so I have to just switch back and forth on the monthly topical for fleas, if I use the same one over and over the fleas get imune and it stops working.

What feed store do you use??

Can someone tell me if this is for real? I've seen most places charging $30-$40 for shipping of a 50lb bag. How can this place charge $6.95? It seems too good to be true to me!

It is probably not food grade.  The DE for pools is not safe for animals, to my understanding.

we have also had a hard time with fleas, My problems was every time i thought i had won they came back.  I did not want to have the chemical sprays so We used benificial nematodes (you can get them from garden shops) and sprayed our yard.  the benificial nematodes feed on the fleas and will reduce the population.  used with orange oil to clean in the house and DE in the Cat and Dog bedding we have had alot of success.

I'm in southwestern Ohio, where I found a local distributor for Perma Guard brand DE.  He is a local farmer (no feed stores around here carry it) and he sells 50# bags for $34.00 a piece.    I found him by emailing Perma Guard directly and asking them for a local distributor.  Elyse from Perma Guard was very helpful.

1 Mille Fleur cock, 1 OEGB, 1 Golden Comet, 1 Silkie, 1 black Austrolorp... OH, forget this!  Just too many chickens and other creatures to list!
