California Greys???

As far as I know they should be as good as most any other. They were derived in part from Leghorns and have and the body type/combs that should do well. Mine are just six weeks old and the weather here is warm, but not extreme. They seem to be thriving since going outside a few days ago though. They also are supposed to lay well in winter.

ETA I see you are in NC. I'm in the SW part of VA so maybe our climates aren't so different.

I like a few white eggs among the brown so maybe I'll try them.
 
They do fine in the heat! I had them for years and it gets over 100 in the summer. I range my birds and on hot days I set up a misting station for them. As long as they have water and shade and cool dirt/ puddes to help regulate their temps they are fine. I loved my CGs. Don't have any now but imagine I will again.

My Cali-AC when she lays she lays great- (blue-gray egg) but she also goes broody.
