Quick hi here! congrats on the new foal Jeff- it's beautiful! Tabitha good to see you & congrats on the baby girl!

Swamped at work but looking forward to April when life "goes back to normal" & I get those 3 day weekends back!

I can't believe the trees are already budding out -- and the mosquitoes, good golly, will about carry you off!

Julie any action from your peas? I swear, mine are clueless! Lots of fanning but nothing else. I think they are late developers & slow learners!

Have a good one everybody; got to get back to work!

10 laying hens, 7 Welsummer chicks, 6 Cuckoo Marans chicks, 7 peacocks, 3 guineas, 3 dogs, 2 "official" cats & 2 more who just showed up & stayed, 1 green parakeet & 1 retired-but-stays-busy husband!

Glad that you checked in Terri. No action from the peas. They have been having a honking concert all weekend and week. They were just missing the woodwind section but they didn't sound too bad. Fashion shows are put on every hour but other than that nothing. I'm checking every day to see if the girls are laying but nothing yet. I will dust, mop and spruce up their condo to see if that will persuade them to lay something. Maybe I can throw some treats in to get them kicked off.

Keep me posted if your start laying. I'm sending good vibes your way. fl.gif

Glad that you're enjoying the new job Terri. thumbsup.gif

Well how do there Mrs. Terri and thanks for the congrats on the beautiful foal(as he is) but fortunately he belongs to Chris or Chris' friend that is and I'm so glad too I had my days with those hay-burners back some time ago, there nice and all but I really like them better when they belong to someone else. LOL

There's a whole world of differences between propagators and breeders. My goal is to propagate breeders towards the Standard of Perfection.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, you can make a purse out of it, but it won't be silk. LOL

Maybe in about another 30-40 years I'll get this "being an expert" thing figured out by then. LOL

I'm just joking...I have a puppy in Grand Rapids that we bought but he is only 7 weeks old right now. We are planing to fly him in at the end of the month sometime.

Well guys....I'm not finished yet but I have been working my tail off trying to get these pens finished. I already had to move some birds in  because I needed the room for my Silkies and Sizzles where I had all these guys staying. Anyway, what ya think? I'm liking it so far.

Hope everybody's doing well & enjoying the weekend-- it's nice weather for sure! wish we could save up some of this cool-ness for the coming months!!

here's the scoop on their bloodline - I edited some of it out - I know from lurking on the RIR thread that Roy Autry is a pretty well known breeder, don't know about George Ryan line but they look to be nice birds, & as I said, I've never had such a nice, healthy hatch of chicks - I am definitely keeping some of them for myself - if they lay like they look - A+ for sure!

Breeder is "luckypickens" on BYC:

"Just added two new roosters from Roy Autry's line to my pen of 13 hens.

These are my favorite of all the big breeds and are a beautiful deep dark mahogany red.  They are a show strain that has been raised and shown for over 50 years by the George Ryan Family in Arkansas and have won numerous Blue Ribbons and Best of Show at our county and state fair by them and myself".
