I was planning on going but hubby had to work at the last minute.   I heard they were  might be having this meet in Covington once a month.  That would be great! thumbsup.gif

My zoo includes my hubby of 28 years, 3 grown kids and three grandbabies.  I am currently working on Lav/Split Ameraucana project, but I also have a few marans, silkies, a couple white leghorns, buff orphs, light sussex, welsmers, etc. I am a hatchaholic and I cannot stop!  Love all the different breeds. I have a paint horse and a goat too. My doggies include my Rottweiler and my pit bull...

Well I'll start....There was a Chicken Sale / Swap today in Covington that Brandi put together and I must say for the first time doing this and for the first one that I know of that was held in Covington, I think that it was a huge success! I could not get over how many people were there both to sell and to buy..... it was a packed house! I couldn't get the birds out of my truck fast enough!!! I sold three birds while unpacking, lol! It was crazy!!!! I bought a pair of birds and could have sold them three times after I bought them. One guy bought some birds from me and people kept asking him about buying them and finally someone offered him a price that I told him he would be crazy not to take.....so he re-sold them and almost doubled his money. I just wished that I would have had more birds to sell.

Again....great job Brandi and I look forward to doing it again!!!

Chris

'm hoping by the time I get home this morning it will have hatched. The hubs thinks he saw a pip on it so we'll see!! fl.gif

Ooh, got chickens at the Covington Swap Yesterday!! Unfortunately, I wanted to go to the parade in Slidell, so I didn't go to the feed store there and get feed so I hope the cracked corn I got from Petsmart is ok until the feed store here opens this morning. They were closed yesterday. My little girl is really dissappointed because mommy didn't make it clear to a guy to save a coronation sussex for her, so no pink eggs for Laila, but we did get two straight run chicks that could lay any color. Unfortunately they went to their other moms house and she wouldn't let them on the computer to even see them, let alone name them! (I have a few choice words for her daily!) chick2.jpgchick1.jpgchicken1.jpgchicken2.jpgchicken3.jpg

Another note, my dog is going nuts! He keeps running back and forth between the big girls in the coop and the chicks in the house whining. I noticed that the bigger ones were pecking at the little yellow one, so I brought them inside last night. I'll take them out during the day for now and see how they do, until the big ones stop, I'll keep bringing them in at night. The dog did have to help me corral the little black one, (s)he escaped from the coop when I was trying to bring them in and just ran and ran and ran from me. He did good though, he didn't even try to nip at it! I wish I knew if they were girls or boys!

Probably not but I really don’t know. That would be a good idea to try and enforce on down the road if this event continues. I personally only had one bird that came back to the house and two that I picked up there. I just put them all in quarantine for the next few weeks just to be on the safe side so really no big deal for me.

I tell you what though….it was a lot of fun and much bigger than I expected it to be. I saw rabbits, goats, a lamb, turkeys, quail, pheasants as well as a ton of chickens. I even ended up selling some cages that I made for my birds, some old waterers and 7 chickens. If I would have had more Silkies with me, I would have sold every one. Brandi did a great job at her first attempt at this and their already planning the next one.
