The people I got them from replied after I left with we just got them from a guy in MS, ours dont have mites and arent sick. Well, why wouldn't you check them before you take them somewhere else that has lots of chickens there? That kind of makes me not want to go to a swap again, lol I was planning on getting a coronation sussex chick from them when they hatched, but now I'm a little worried about that. Does anyone else have any? LOL I have to wait till I get these better, but I am looking.

How are they doing? fl.gif

My new coop is ready, and I need a roo... sad.png Here are pics of my new silkie pen. I will only keep 5, 6 at the most silkies in here, and I will let me free range in my yard mostly. 600x448px-LL-097a4c74_photo54.jpeg600x448px-LL-189519b9_photo55.jpegThis is such a cool design my hubby came up with. The top opens so that you can walk into the coop! I was going to put chicken wire on the floor but we ran out. My dogs keep all the critters outta the yard that would try to dig under the pen though, so it most likely wont be a problem. The coop is 5x5x3. I have 4 silkie hens in there right now.

I love the pen. Great job!

Once I put a single 5 week old chick into my pen with the adults and they killed her, so they can kill the babies and possibly will.

Yep! A week ago I gave my son 14 baby Pekin ducks. This weekend they put the ducklings in with their full grown chickens. A few hours later they came back to find 8 of the 14 ducklings pecked to death by the chickens. They took the remaining six inside and put them in a little wire kennel. Again, the poor little ducklings found out that we live in a very cruel world. The ducklings escaped from the kennel and met their demise by my son's tiny Chiquaua. In a matter of hours, all 14 ducklings were dead.

So sorry to hear about this Twiley. hit.gif

Your sebbie goose is gorgeous! Have you hatched any yet? So far, I had one that was supposed to hatch about a week ago but for whatever reason it didn't hatch. It was fully formed but dead in the egg. I have several that should hatch within the next couple of weeks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

No sebbie goslings yet!  She should hatch her clutch in a couple weeks.  I have a few more in the incubator, and I also have another goose that decided to set last week.  I was trying to pull all the eggs, but I lost 2 grandparents last week so the egg picking fell to the wayside. The gray girl only has a few eggs under her because she was DETERMINED to set.  I felt bad letting her sit on a big nest of nothing!  She looks like she will be a good mama for only being 1 year old.

Sorry to hear about your grandparents. hugs.gif

Terri, the peas have graduated from the High School Pep Rally honk to the Wild Jungle Creature Call; the kind of sound that you DO NOT want to hear if you are walking down a long, dark road at 2AM in the morning. I heard that change of call for the first time this weekend and it scared the crap out of me. I was in the feed storage building and I heard a LOUD screech and I came running out and I looked in the sky to see if perhaps a pre-historic flying dragon was circling in the sky. Then I heard it again and walked around and then I heard it for the 3rd time. Then it dawned on me it was the peas. I stayed close around their aviary to see if they would make the call again and surely they did. It's scary. hide.gif
