Mike is right, I think the only aggressive geese in the world are the crew at my house. barnie.gif My geese will rip a nail out of a pallet. They are MEAN !!!!!hide.gif

Mike is right again, a kiddie pool makes up for no pond. I have had kiddie pools for the last 8 years since I have had geese and ducks. They love it. They don't know the difference and I ain't telling them. I have about 7 kiddie pools places in different locations in my chicken yard. I have enough pools so they won't fight over who gets in and who gets out. Wait, what am I talking about no fighting. That's impossible at my place. gig.gif

Mike,

What age is old enough for a duck to be on his own?

Chris depends on the breed and your safety rating at your place Mine will walk out of the duckling pond at about 4 weeks and are free range from there with the domestics. As long as they arent readily available for predators they can go out at 2-4 weeks. Mine like I said are on the duckling pond at 2 weeks max sometimes the first week

I have Muscovy hens running around here that have babies and have never been in any enclosure

You hit a valid point when you say "safety rating". The safety rating at my place is 0. The predators that I have are my chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, etc. If a chicken, duck or turkey sees a gosling in the water in the kiddie pool, they WILL try to kill it. That goes for chickens, turkeys and geese trying to kill the baby ducklings. Nothing is safe at my place . That's why I have to wait longer than everyone else to allow mine in the water unsupervised. It's a critter eat critter world at my place. smack.gif

Mike they're GORGEOUS!!!!!

I wish I had the room (fenced in pasture) to have geese again. I loved my geese - they were plain ol' white Chinese but a lot of fun!

10 laying hens, 7 Welsummer chicks, 6 Cuckoo Marans chicks, 7 peacocks, 3 guineas, 3 dogs, 2 "official" cats & 2 more who just showed up & stayed, 1 green parakeet & 1 retired-but-stays-busy husband!

Well La-yers I'm so sorry but I won't be at the Opelousas meet this weekend. My blood pressure spiked to stroke level yesterday & so I was ordered home to bed rest & on two different medications. They do appear to be working as my BP dropped almost 50 points overnight -- so I skated being admitted to the hospital so far.  Trying hard to be good & be quiet & de-stress & not be so hyper & all of that jazz!
