Hi California people. I’m in North Hollywood and I have two 50lb bags of Kalmbach flock maker, 20% protein feed. I think it’s crumble. I got rid of my rooster and I got rid of my younger chickens or they grew older. So now I’m using layer feed and I’m looking to give these bags away. They have been in my garage and have not gotten wet one is intact and the other one, a vermin creature gnawed into!!!!

If you need feeders or waters, and you happen to come by to get this feed, I’ll probably be like hey, give five bucks and you can have this or that. I’m downsizing

WOW! you are DOWNSIZING! We store feed bags in our garage too but we use close lid metal pails to store feed so critters don't get to feed. Bless you while downsizing and adjusting. Yesterday in the pouring rain we went to our 3rd family and friends funeral in 6 weeks and it's exhausting!

Thank you, such a generous offer! I would be grateful to come by and pick those up - I will private message you now.

Hey, I’m so sorry to hear about your losses. A lot of people I know are experiencing some pretty sad things right now. Yeah I store my feed in metal garbage cans, but I left this in a box for too long and I just forgot about it.

@chfriedmam -- sounds to me like you've had plenty on your plate too. Hope you can keep some of your flock for a while. I'm 80 this year and not getting any more new birds after the 3 new Silkie chicks. I just love the little buggers and can't imagine not having them around as I age further. My DH mostly handles their feed and coop care while I get the fun of giving treats and having cuddle time w/ them. After our house remodel in 2010-11 we had the choice to have one dog, one cat, or a coupe Silkie chickens as pets. DH said he's had dogs and cats already and wanted to try chickens. He takes such good diligent care of them. We've cycled through 25 chickens in almost 13 years and thru attrition we now have 1 old Dominique and 5 Silkies.

Big bummer today - I lost my favorite hen, Christmas - a white silkie frizzle, to a coyote. She was one of my first hens and was an amazing broody and mother who would hatch eggs and take on adoptions. I got too comfortable leaving the chickens out of the run to roam around since i had preferred it to keeping them locked up (and safe) all the time. I suppose it was something that was inevitable given my practice of letting the free range. 😞

Very sorry to hear about your loss. I’ve been there. I too let my birds out during the day and even though we have electric fencing and other protection sometimes it’s just not enough. I take some peace in the fact that they are much happier birds ranging outside than being locked up. Sending hugs

I took a break from BYC for a few years - life, you know, and coming back and seeing how quiet the San Diego thread is made me.... sad? IDK. Was thinking of making a new thread, but it seems this one is still active from time to time. Anyone in SD County, hit me up. Would love to talk chicken ^^
San Diego here! And new (less than a year) to chicken tending. We have a Dominique roo, 5 Black Copper Marans, 1 Buff Brahma, 3 Barred Rocks, and 4 Easter Eggers. I lost my favorite RIR hen to a hawk so we now also have Chinese Brown Goslings to be guard geese. Would love any advice on how to tame the chicken/bird math lol

Thank you, I appreciate your message and you sharing your reasoning. I plan to still let them out since I also feel like it’s better for their health, but I’ll probably do it during the times I’m outside with them.
