This is an awesome idea and I plan on using it. Thanks for sharing it. I have looked at the wigglers on Ebay but don't really have the money to get one right now. I haven't shopped around locally to see if anyone has any but this is a money saver since I already have baggies. I wrote down the info for the meat thermometer but I am wondering if the digital medical thermometer is the same one that is used by moms to measure kids temps and if the ones they have at the Dollar Tree would work? Also, with the meat thermometer, you wouldn't have to open the incubator to read the meter would you? If you used a medical thermometer for kids, wouldn't you have to open the incubator to press the button? Thanks, Sylvia

I have the Little Giant 9200 still air incubator. I thread the cord through one of the holes at the top and place the readout display on top. The only time I have to open the incubator is to turn the eggs (turning by hand) or to candle them. The one I got has an alarm when it reaches a specific temperature. I set the alarm to go off if it is over by one degree of where I wan it to be.

With this thermometer you can keep your eye on the both the temperature and the humidity inside of your incubator while you watch the Monday Night ball game, mow the lawn, cook supper or when you wake in the middle of the night and roll over to look at the alarm clock. I don't recommend it for setting the incubator temp because it doesn't register in 1/10s of a degree but it is a very accurate thermometer that works for 100 yards from the outside sending unit, which would in this application be the inside of the incubator sending unit. $20 or less at a Lows near you.
 
Does anyone know if you could do this same thing but instead of using sandwich bags, using the snack bags? I dont have any sandwich bags. Also do you keep it in the wohole time of incubation as an extra egg or at certain intervals?
 
Phew. I happened upon this thread today and got excited. Not long ago I filled a plastic Easter egg with hydrated diaper gel after drilling a hole in one end to accommodate the probe.squeezed the ends together and voila my very own ghost chick.

Diaper dust is the powdery polymer substance in disposible diapers. It absorbs fluids and doesn't tend to drip if done right. It looks like granulated egg whites. Best $2 investment ever.
 
Good. Even I didn't know what That was for. Now I can make one for my Incubator, considering my first attempt at incubating I actually cooked the eggs.
