Which chicken breeds make the best "pet" chickens?

it looks like you have pallets as part as keeping your chickens in a pen. I do not have my chicks yet, I am still researching which kind to get, and I know NOTHING about chickens. I am curious as to if you have wire on the top of your pallets to keep your chickens from flying away.

Trying to learn :)

What kind of hens are you looking for Kathy? I have Dutch bantams which are a lovely little breed, they're my first birds and couldn't be happier with them :) I have wire on top of my run mainly to keep big birds like crows, buzzards and my dog out keeping my little hens safe, but it also keeps them in as the lighter breeds tend to be good fliers! Although its not compulsory as long as your fences are high enough. Some people free range their hens, as once they know where their coop is they should return to roost there at night.

. Second, I say that Brahmas, Silkies, and Seramas make AWESOME pets, and also Brahmas are really pretty.
