Anyone know of a LF Dark Brahma breeder in the So Cal area or one that can ship eggs/chicks?

Oh, just looked on ebay and there were Dark Brahma eggs for sale. Had 9 minutes to go. Bid and won, hopefully I will get a few cuties out of it. Wish me luck on my hatch rate...

    I thought one of mine was an Australorp , but have now decided she's a black minorca. We now have 2 laying and I think she's it. I think the brahmas are so pretty. I live in Tn,and it gets really hot here for about 8 months out of the year,so I don't want to get anymore b/c she just looks hot! I hate it for her,but love looking at her. She won't squawk when youngest kid picks her up, lets you pet her and "love on her". Mine free roam and range all day, and I've got cool places under the deck and tree line they can cool off in. She eats anything you give her too. She's by far my favorite. I like my Ancona too. She'll walk up and talk to you.

For large fowl brahmas is .5 pounds of feed a day too much? The birds I'm asking about are about 5 months old. They only get let outside every three days.

that would depend on how many you are feeding

TnMama I live in FLorida and its hot here most of the time. My birds are fine My coop is built under a tree and has lots of ventilation around the top plus I have a screened door on the coop to allow maximum air flow. One thing mine love is to stand in a tub of water. I use the kitty liter pans from dollar tree and keep them filled with cool water they love splashing around in them and making mud It does help to keep them cool thou
 

Half a pound of feed per bird per day.

Mine have pans with water they  love to stand in on the hot days. This is not a Brahma but they all love it. I also have sprinklers in their pens. They like to get under the sprinklers too when it's hot out.

We never have a heat problem here, just wind, rain and mud.

Just thought I'd say, if you need chicks adopting, Brahmas seem to be stars at doing it. My biggest girls, Mrs Grey, 4.5 years old Dark Brahma , has always been game for adopting. Her granddaughter, Moregrey recently became broody, so I gave her 3 eggs I was incubating. She hatched these over the last 48hours and at the same time I had first one hatch and then two at the same time about a day later.On the first occasion I waited for the chick to liven up a bit after hatching, then took it down to the broody coop. Moregrey was sitting low. I raised her wing and placed the new chick under. Moregrey continued to sit quite happily, whilst new chick poked it's head out from under her wing. When the next two hatched I took them down and Morgrey raised herself up....almost as if she knew. I moved her wing out a little and placed the two chicks under.....never a murmur.....family complete.

A couple of hours later I moved her out of the broody pen as she had pooed there and it smelt awful. All the little family ....3 she'd hatched and 3 from the incubator moved with her whilst I cleaned out the pen. She went back in the pen after, clucking and purring, calling all 'her' chicks to follow.

Brahmas make great mums.
