Pygmy Goats for milking vs. Nubians

I have mini lamanchas and Nigerians, LOVE the milk they give, very high in butterfat, I swear it taste like whole cows milk to me. HOWEVER, boy they have awful small teats.

I am saving for an automatic milker. Dont bother getting one of those hand pump type, I did, waste of 80.00 bucks.

Yes I have been on their website. I will def. put it in my favorites and check regularly. I can't wait until I finally get my first babies. Did you put your request in early?

I sure did. However, several of the does did not feel like filling my order!

I ended up with two bucks, one doe, and one wether. When I initially wanted one buck and two does. It's all good, though. I now have diversity for breeding by owning more than one buck and am looking to add more does. We got the wether to keep the doe company and he is my son's favorite. I highly recommend wethers for those looking for a pet. They are funny, affectionate and surprisingly smart!

Good to know about the hand pump. I plan on just hand milking but seeing as I've never done it who knows what I may want to try in the future.

I have a Saanen but Hubby bought me a hand milker that works, for a decent price I think.

Here's the link: http://www.maggidans.com/milker.htm There is a link to click to watch a video of it in action a little lower down on the page.

I do a little hand milking after the suction has ended with this pump, to fully empty my doe. But it does make milking faster. Sure I have to clean the pump, but I do that along with my milking pail & filters after storing my milk away.

I'm sure it would be a life saver if I had or ever have a mini milking doe.

Those hand type milkers are great for emergencies but I dont recomend them for all the time as they will eventually damage the teats of the goat and they pinch also. I have Nigi's and Nubians, alpines and La manchas and soem have great teats and some have small teats. I have some Nigis that are easy to milk and some that arent.Same with the others. It basically depends on the breeding of the goat and some FF's are harder to milk that older type goats or 1 that has raise some kids.
I have a surge milker that I got for my cow and have converted it to the goat milker. You need something that doesnt have constand drawing pressure as this pulls the blood down into the bottom of the teat and eventually it will get sore and do some damage. I got 1 and after a few days my girls were jumping away from it.They live the Surge milker as it pulls milk the lets up just like hand milking. You can get some for a reasonable price on Ebay sometimes. and there are some sites that can help you build your own.
