Goat house plans?

So i've been praying and hoping for goats (as most of you probably know) but i'm not sure what to do for their house. i was thinking buying a shed, but the good ones are expensive. so i'm thinking about building one. i think i'm gonna get two nigerian dwarf goats. so i need some ideas for a house that can hold their food, water and them (of course.) so what size should i make it? and how should i make it? if anyone has any pictures that would be great!

I know you said you don't want to purchase a shed, but I think you should look around. There are always lots of sheds for sale on Craigslist, and some people even give them away for free, if you just come and pick it up. I recently purchased one from Home Depot. It's 8x8 feet, my 3 miniature goats love it. The only thing we changed was that we added a smaller "goat door" in the back of it, so that we can close the large front doors during bad weather.
It cost us $600, and we put it together ourselves. A lot of places have sheds on Clearance right now, so just check around. I'll try to find a picture of mine, and attach it to this post.

i've been looking and looking for sheds and all the good ones that aren't plastic and weak metal are around 1000+ and thats a lot of money for me. 600 would be tolerable, but 1000+ is pushing it. i'll keep an eye on craigslist. thanks!

Learn how to build it. I grew up in a family where mom was the remodeler. I learned early on that I was as capable as any man in regards to planning and building. I may not be as strong, but I'm clever and can figure out ways to get around the strength issue. If I had to wait for my DH to build all the things I want I would have divorced him long, long ago. We've been married for 31 years,and I credit that to being able to do for myself. He is wonderful and a great provider, but challenged in the country stuff. You can build, using re-use stuff and make great shelters. If you can't find a shed, build it. Sorry, feeling empowered after building my new 8X40 chicken coop. Just turned out my month old hens and they are LOVING it. You CAN do this!

We live in a bi-level. Out back we had an above ground pool attached to the deck and house. It exploded 1 year and a half ago so we have sealed off the whole surround of the deck and since there is nice sand where the pool used to sit, the goats now have a lovely, large pen and we can see them meandering about in the pool area.

Under the living room there is a spot where the house juts out. We simply a 8x6 portion, put up studs and cheap OSB (board) and we now have a cute little goat house right under our living room and attached to the deck. We basically just used the space we had and sealed it off and plopped the little ladies in there. It has worked out WONDERFULLY. I milk in the garage so now they don't poop on the milking stand.

You can be creative with what you have. Take inventory of where you want them, how far you want to walk in bad weather and where you have water and electricity available and work within those parameters.

BTW, we did all of that (wire around deck, goat house, goat bed) all for about $300 so far and I'm estimating high. We just made use of structure we already had. I'll post a picture if you are interested.

I agree with calgal98, you can do a lot more than you think.

I am just about finished with my Goat/chicken shack. I will post pictures for you, believe me if I can do it anyone can.

The main thing I have learned , since they moved in , is that if the planks arent screwed in and on the right side, you will find your planks on the ground in short order (they also knocked the inside gate off once) and these are dwarf goats

thanks everyone! i surprised myself the other day when i decided to build a food station for my ducks to keep their food dry when it was out in the rain or in their pen where the rain seeps through. my parents weren't home so i couldn't use power tools. i used a hand saw (!!!) and was able to build it PERFECTLY! it works really well and we haven't had soggy food since! so i guess i can do more than i think i can, and i just have to find the supplies to do it!
