So cute, what kind of chicks? They look blue or lavender in the photo?

We have 2 hens sharing one nest and one clutch. The second hen didn't become broody until 2 weeks after the other hen so we collected her eggs. They are in a coop with a rooster (they have free range access 75% of the time) and we plan on leaving them all together as it is too late to move the hens. This morning will mark day 20, hoping to get chicks! This is our first time letting any hatch, it's been a neat experience and we are learning as we go! Fingers crossed they hatch and become one happy family!

This is my second time hatching eggs, first time I've had two go broody together. Mr. Rooster was caught in action taking food (it was a grape) into the coop and holding it while the broody ate it from his mouth. He also finds food in their yard and calls to the hens, letting them eat the food. What a gentleman rooster! My two brooding hens have had four babies in past four days, with four more eggs to hatch. They are taking turns, one up with babies, while one is in nest on eggs. However, my first born chick has disappeared without a trace. We left the door open (they share a hen house with 9 other hens and a rooster) to their big yard... so, now we only open the door just before time for the others to come in for the night. We have their yard about as predator proof as possible, and it was daytime... i can't even find a trace of the chick.... last time chicks were born, i had a two day old disappear in the same way..... still, i am determined to let nature take it's course, just be careful the first 2 weeks! That's the most vunerable time.

All of mine still get along-have found their pecking order. They are almost 14 weeks, and although ameraucana's are reportedly hard to sex, I think I feel confident rehoming this "guy". ?

I had 2 broody hens and separated them and gave them each 2 ducklings in the night. They were with their babies for 3 days separated from the flock and other mama. I put 2 nesting boxes on the ground in a large enclosed pen, with each mama and her 2 ducklings on opposite ends and watched them constantly. The ducklings soon joined together to play and hang out. Next thing you know they are inseparable and go back and forth between mamas. After the first couple nights I gave in to them all sleeping in one nesting box, luckily they are large boxes!
They seem to be a happy family with 2 mamas! I tried letting my other 2 hens have a supervised visit and one mama charged and pecked the visitor keeping them away from babies. So, no more visits inside the enclosure for now. Anyways, its really sweet seeing how harmoniously the 2 mamas and 4 ducklings are together, its been a week.

I know this is an old thread but my chicks just hatched about two days ago. I am over the moon! Both of my broody moms are four years old and I only have hens so they’ve never been allowed to sit. One of my friends gave me nine fertile eggs for them to sit on. Seven out of nine hatched which I think is awesome. During the brooding process, I had them separated however they have been together for four years. After the eggs hatched, they ended up getting in the same location and now they are taking care of each other‘s babies. The chicks go from one to the other and they are doing an amazing job. It’s actually so neat to watch because they do get along so well. Luckily, because my girls are so tame, they don’t mind me being around a bit.

I have to agree with the posters that say don't do it. I have heard some say they have never had any problems with two broodies with chicks together - but I can tell you it did not work well for me. My two broodies almost killed each other the first day after they hatched the biddies - and like to have trampled the babies in the process. I had to build two separate pens in the coop to keep each with their own babies in. After about 2 weeks they were fine. But I believe they would have fought to the death right after the babies hatched.
i have 2 hens that have been sharing the nest duty and on 5/29 they hatched 5 chicks. they have been doing great with the chicks and sleeping side by side. but today they were really going at it fighting, i took 1 out of the coop and after a while i tryed to let the hen in but no this time they started fighting with the chicks right under them. its more then just a fight, they really want to hurt each other, i dont know why, i thought they were co-parenting very well together. now i dont know what to do.
