Putting the ducklings outside

I should have read this before I posted the same question eh? sorry;)
this answers my question, i think weather dependant mine might sleep out in their new house pretty soon.

Well I am glad I dug this out instead of starting a new thread too, I have 2 ducks, (while adorable) are making my brooder really SMELL.

I have to clean the brooder probably 5 times as much because of the 2 ducks. I am about to Free Range all my Hens, in a month or two, I think I am gonna go ahead and put the duck in the pen with the hens tommorow to see how they warm up to each other until the fence it totally ready for the free ranging or yarding or whatever you wanna call it.

Well, my 26, 6 day old ducklings went outside yesterday with 10 turkey cousins and 10 chicken cousins (all 6-7 days old). The pen has shade cloth on top and it's in the upper 80s, low 90s during the day. At night I put them up in their house in the pen with a heat lamp. Everyone made it through the night just fine and were happy happy happy to run get out this morning. It is so much better than my bathtub and various plastic bins!!!! We're also on sand so they can't make too much of a mess. Some will have to start going in a dog crate at night in a few weeks because they're going to outgrow their house.

I put my two out today, they seem to really like it. I am estatic about getting them out of my brooder. I cleaned it after they were evicted and it never looked so clean after a day of being pooped on.....

Less cleaning makes me a happier person!

We also have successfully raised ducklings into big ducks and we live in northern WI.....we don't put them outside unless they have some feathers (and this is without a mom) and around a month old. The temps here in April range from 30-50 degrees also. It was completely different when they were hatched outside with a momma duck also....they did fine if we had protection from preditors like feral cats and such!!
I would also add when we did get the little buggers from order we inside all the time under a little lamp....but when they outgrew two different bins and had to change the bedding two times a day it was time to go! I have to say they are much messier and smellier than chickens and turkeys....but OH SO MUCH CUTER!!!
They grow SO fast so enjoy!!!
