Chicks that don't/won't open their eyes.

Last three 3 of my chicks that hatched four days before are doing the same thing eyes shut not eating and drinking from their hatching. I am worried. Hopefully someone more experienced will post with some advice and tell me indetail about this condition.

Hello,

You must start hydrating the chicks immediately. Add a pinch of sugar and just a few grains of salt to lukewarm water and carefully dip the tip of their beak or apply a tiny drop to the beak with a 1ml syringe. You could also stir in a little applesauce. Keep hydrating them as often as possible to get their eyes to open and off some soft food--applesauce, finely diced boiled egg, etc. Get some water soluble pet vitamins abd give them a few drops with syringe.

Have one barnvelder that is 3 days old with shut eyes. Eats, drinks, poops, and runs around. Very healthy.

Last night put lubricant eyes drops in eyes. Seemed to help for a few hours. Will try warm cloth today. Eye drops okay?
