How early do you clip chick wings?

So I am going to clip their wings. Like I said, I am actually very good at it. I have been doing parrots and other exotic birds my entire life. Just don't like to do it if it is not necessary. I think that if a little clipping keeps them in order and keeps all of us happy it is worth it. Also, a preserve backs my yard and I am nervous they will hop over the fence into the preserve. Who knows what is watching them waiting for an opportunity. Thank you for getting back to me.

my grandpa always told me clip only one side.it puts them off balance when trying to fly. if you clip both sides then they are learning to fly with short feathers.

Mine have both sides clipped and the lighter ameraucanas can get a good 3.5 feet of air. However, that works fine for me because it keeps them in the 4 ft fence while still allowing them some flying ability just in case. So it really depends on your circumstances.

I'd like to give this a bump cuz I too am curious as to when to start clipping their wings. I read how, but it doesn't say when. Mine are a month old at this point and they have no problem getting oof the ground and out of the box. I'd like to give them some outdoor freedom, but not til their clipped. I have Cornish X, BR, BO, and RIR.
Thanx~
Do not clip until their adult feathers are in. While they are growing, they have blood on them. This would be the equivalent to clipping your dogs nails too short and cutting the quik.

Only ever clip one side. Same side every time. On every chicken. This makes them fly crooked so they can’t get as high and over what they are aiming for.
