Lets See your Frizzle Mutts!

May I introduce Sadie?

She is my first chicken, ever.

{update: I am the proud mother of a baby boy! We have a lot of catching up to do; but I couldn't be more thrilled. yeah.... :) Sadie is: welp? A boy. Wow.}

She's a 'rescue'; as you can see, she has an issue with her claw that I'm trying to get to the bottom of.

She limps, but she's happy. I do think she's transiently in some pain; right now? I think yes, but again: she's spirited and wants to live. The last few days we've not been active out of doors as we've had a flare-up.

We did go worming in loose dirt today, just to get outside and get some sun; but I'm very concerned.

Sadie is a hybrid: frizzle and I THINK barred rock; but that's all me, and I am, as I said, BRAND new to this.

I believe her to be about 13-15 weeks old.

A 'friend' was going to put her in the stew pot as she'd been injured. He asked me if I'd try to save her; of course I took her immediately to the vet and we've been back several times and BOY it's confusing...

Sadie and I have been together since the first week in September.

I'm in love.

She loves me, too; I never imagined how attached either of us would get. Now? We're a family. Having said that? I want more than anything for her to be well and happy.

IF, when we heal her, she wants to be a real chicken again? A neighbor has a ten-strong flock that they'd be willing to let my try to integrate her into. IF that works out? I can still be a part of her life. If she wants to remain with me? I adore her; of course I'm in it for the long haul. Indeed: with sublime pleasure.

The Vet and my friend both tell me she's a girl.

A few weeks ago, young, Sadie started to hencrow. I had to peel myself off the ceiling, I was so scared.

After I figured out she wasn't dying a grisly death? I laughed as hard as anything and still am... and I'm still researching.

In her case? I THINK it may be solitude: she's alone {as a chicken. She's never alone alone; I'm with her practically 24/7.

[And Mr. Stray-Who-Is-My-Master makes 3. This is some menagerie, if I do say: we're evolving into a bit of an eccentric family...]

I think I've been away from her 3 times for a few hours since I got her.}; but it may have a longer-than-you-probably-want-to-hear medical backstory, too... It may, therefore, be temporary.

This is my girl.

Welcome to the world, my darling...

I love you.

Early this year I breed a frizzle polish rooster to a thai hen. This is what they came up, a frizzle polish mutt with a single split comb. This guy is very aggressive. I bred him to a black game hen which is in the back. I'm selling their eggs right now. The hen won't goes broody until March.
