Right on Sonoran.  That's the point of keeping breeder quality birds on the farm!

I agree about parent birds not always being the best show birds, but it's the Exhibition birds that represent the breed.

I went through a similar situation back when I was showing Rex rabbits.  The focus on coat for show animals led to poor frame and muscling.  I started breeding for Coat and Body.  It took 5years, but I won Best of Breed at every show I went to my last year. 

It takes a while to change the judges mind, but it can be done.  Once the judges change their minds, the other breeders follow.

I developed a allergic reaction to rabbits that was triggering life-threatening asthma attacks. 

I still stubbornly didn't get rid of them until I had a really bad attack when I was alone.  I couldn't get to my epi pen and almost died.  I finally realized that it was insane to keep them.

I permanently lost 20% of my lung volume because of the damage done.  I don't regret my work with rabbits, I just wish there had been a way to continue.

One breeder cried when I told him my English Spot does were his.  My animals went to breeders who valued them.  I couldn't ask for more than that given the situation, but I do still miss them.

what are you wanting to know--you're question was very general, and you got some geneal answers.  Can you be a bit more specific? 

I'm not the person to answer as I have never had cornish, but I enjoy reading and learning.

Yoker, how about you tell us the type of Cornish you are wanting:

Birds that are bred towards the standard, or birds that are bred towards production.

If you are wanting to pursue show quality birds, there are sources out there.  If you are wanting some to walk around the yard that somewhat resemble the Cornish from the standard, then go with a hatchery.

Ryu, sorry about your bunnies!   I thought my feather allergy was bad, glad I don't need an epi-pen just yet.

I will post a couple pics of my Cornish for folks to comment on if you would like after I chore tonight.  They are far from perfect, but I have three distinct styles of Roo that I have collected.  None are my ideal, but they are pieces to the puzzle I think.

This is a really interesting thread. Indian games (Cornish) are one of my favourite breeds.

since u mentioned hatchery cornish, what are they good for?  they dont seem xtra meaty, i ordered some from mm and they dont look like the muscle birds i had many years ago.  do they lay?  there has to be some point to them.  pse fill me in
