How to make a cement bird bath out of a leaf

edited to say that I got this idea from an old gardening magazine smile

start off with making a mound of sand and covering with saran wrap

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step1.jpg

Find big leaf I use a weed I think it is called burdock (whatever it is it grown burrs so I always cut it down before that happens) you can use a rhubarb leaf as well. Place over saran wrap

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step2.jpg

Put cement over thinly about 1/4 inch

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step3.jpg

wrap in saran again

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step4.jpg

let dry like that

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step45.jpg

Peel off leaf once dry I use chips to stabalize and keep from breaking as I work, you can scrub off with hard brush what does not peel easily

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step5.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step6.jpg

Now for the base I use a cardboard tube at home depot meant for piles

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step7.jpg

Fill with cement put on saran wrap

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step8.jpg

Place leaf and push down gently to create dip in cement for it to sit in, then remove and let dry for several days

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step9.jpg

then peel back paper leaving pillar and paint you can use any paint as long as you use a cement water tight sealer over or you can use a non toxic cement stain with out sealant.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj84/soozin44/step12.jpg

all done smile

Those are amazing!!! I'll never look at my burdocks the same way again! (That is what I call them too, but I'm not sure I'm right.)
I definitely want to make one or two.

Also known as Hitchhiker plant! I HATE those burrs and my Newfoundland dog does too!
Beautiful!

Would love to see one spray painted in gold or silver!
