I know this is a silly question but when I was at wal-mart buying the dogs weekly toys ( they kill stuffed animals often and need new ones LOL ) I was wondering if there were such things as toys for chickens ? I dont expect them to play fetch or anything but is there something I can put in the yard for them to entertain them I dont want bored chickens.

What about a toy farmer with an axe, they can stomp on him!!!
No only kidding, they like to chase mice so perhaps a cat toy!

We put an old oak tree stump filled with bugs, grubs and other creepy crawlies in their run a couple of days ago.  They are having so much fun with it.  They play "Queen of the Mountain" -  taking turns on top (2 or 3 at once).  We have a covered run so they can't fly out with the added height of the stump.  They also are eating all the bugs that peek their little heads out of the stump.  ep

I read somewhere that you can use plastic easter eggs and fill them with feed and poke holes in them. They'll be rolling the eggs around to get the feed out. I got mine a couple of pet-bird toys but they don't seem to interested in them yet!

Chicken tetherball:  cabbage on a string tied to a pole.  Entertainment for hours.

I never thought about anything with bugs in it - that will be my hubby's job to gather bugs as I am totally not into touching anything with more legs than my dog LOL ( gross gross gross )
I will try maybe an easter egg filled with treats I know mine go crazy over chesse (shredded ) maybe I can get them to "play" with it?

My girls live in a 5 x 12 run, and it is hard to think up things to keep them occupied.  I would let them free-range if I weren't worried about some loose dogs in the neighborhood.  Anyway, each morning before work, I dig up a huge clump of tall grass (our yard is left "natural", it's not a lawn), and plunk it in the run.  The girls love to scratch at it, eat the grass stalks and hunt for escaping bugs.

By the time I come home from work, it's just a dried up pile of roots, so they must go at it all day long.

Obelisk likes stretchy lizards. She can whack that on the floor for hours.
She and Penny both like shredding newspaper.
I've tried birds toys also and they're not interested. But they did like the parakeet shred a boxes.

They weren't keen on the 8-in-1 Bird burrito. sad so my outside birds will get that.
They also like millet sprays. Obelisk knows that word quite well.

They make cricket 'tubes' that are plastic and if you line the holes up then the crickets can get out one at a time. Our girls love to play with that. They anxiously await each cricket to see who can grab it first. Only my favorite girl has figured out about the hole. The others think it's magic smile

Cool part of this 'toy' is that it's refillable from the local bait shop!
