I was helping a customer, when out of the blue he asked me if I'd ever seen a green egg.

I hadn't so he went out to his truck and returned holding an army green egg. I mentioned that I had chickens, and he offered me the egg. He said he'd just collected it that morning, and that it should be fertile.

I asked him what type of chicken it was, and he said he had no clue....just a chicken.

When I got home, I rushed to put it in the nest with the other eggs...and just my luck---I opened the nest box and was surprised to see a hen had gone broody that day!

I hope it hatches!!

What will it be??

it could be a number of combos.

most likely an Ameracauna or Easter Egger cross.

we have Australorps X Ameracauna that lay olive to light green eggs.

guess you'll know if and when it hatches and grows up.

Thanks! Those are some nice looking birds. Way bigger than mine. I don't even know what breed I have. I was given a hen by a customer two years ago. (I have pics of pets & animals up at my desks and everyone knows I love them and offer me animals they can't keep) Anyway, she is small & reddish. (and OMG...the most hateful creature I have ever met.) Then, Two weeks after that, someone else gave me a rooster. He seems tiny to me, but so pretty. He is so black he is greenish, with a blond head. Their offspring is one little bitty blonde hen, one grayish medium sized hen, one tiny red hen, and one little red rooster. I'm guessing there is no telling what bred they are. From what I've read here, I think they may be bantams?

Right now, I'm trying to build up my flock. After I get plenty, I plan to cull a few for supper, and collect eggs.

Thanks again on the replies!! I'll let you know if it hatches.

It's an EE. EE's lay green eggs.

Ameraucanas lay BLUE eggs....some have a 'greenish' tint, but mostly blue.

Hmmm....the description of your little roo almost sounds like my EE bantam roo. Yes, they also come in a bantam size. Let me see if I can find a pic of him on here to show you and see if this is what he looks like.
