texas laws

i would call them and tell them you plan on registering your flock with the state later on and ask what would be the best way to go about that. it's easier to talk to the testers than the state, from my experience.

Do they ever force someone to eradicate? I really don't want to sell eggs, or chicks....but would like to get a cert. just for trading and stuff here on BYC....I wouldn't want to send someone bad eggs, and infect anyone's flock.

Even though my flock appears healthy and we have never had a problem with illness, I still would like to have a cert for piece of mind. It's the main reason I haven't participated in the swap chain.

yes they have. that is why, when buying poultry or any fowl from another individual, it is best practice to quarantine the new birds for at least a week. most will do longer than that.

that's also why alot of people get scared to have their birds tested along with they don't want the government to know they have chickens.

a friend of mine recently bought a bird off eggbid. the seller said she was npip certified but when she got the silkie, there was no paperwork attached. she's called and emailed the seller to no avail. so she's having the tester come out to test the silkie. the silkie is healthy, but just for her peace of mind.

getting your flock tested is really a great resource. the testers are usually veteran poultry person and are a wonder of information. they also have many friends that raise chickens and so if you're looking for a particular breed to raise, they can usually help you find one locally.

I live in the middle of no where far away from any city lines. Are my chickens covered under the free range laws? They are mostly always in my yard but they went into my neighbors yard ( weeds over my head). I have all of my chickens kept up now but if my chickens were to wander into their yard again would they be covered under the law? Also, their dog has come over and killed 5 of my chickens in my yard and keeps trying to get into the chicken coop. Is there a law against that?

There is a new update and a more liberal change for Carrollton, Texas. It is not a perfect solution, but they are coming around! I am having problems uploading, but have asked Flock Master for advice

Did the State-wide Chicken law ever pass? I heard at one point that it failed because of one turn-coat. Then I heard later that it passed. But, googling gives me only junk links.
