I'm up for a road trip. Maybe once the weather warms come spring. I've got a baby due in early May so maybe in early April? And what was up with the post about the guy shooting the dog? Are we just ignoring that?

I think it was posted on the wrong thread.

I didn't find any miracle cures (I knew that probably wouldn't happen) but I did find this site and felt better knowing all of you chicken lovers are out there.

My husband and I own a B & B in Taos, and we've only just got our first chickens. It felt like being in the Garden of Eden, looking out my kitchen window while making breakfast, and seeing my girls wandering around the lawn. And then the neighbor's dog-- who we had been told wouldn't bother a chicken-- came over and killed at least one, and dispersed 4 others, who we've not been able to find. Of course he had to take two of my favourite three chickens-- the ones who sat happily on my lap and followed me around.

So, now I know they can't just enjoy themselves free-ranging around the yard. I had heard that llamas and donkeys are good protectors of herd animals and wondered if they would also protect a flock of chickens?

Anyhow, it's just nice to know other people are out there who know that chickens make excellent and loving pets.

When are season is less busy I'd love to take a drive and meet other chicken fanciers.

Ok, maybe the dog guy read this post, I remembered something on here awhile back. It was probably a suggestion of what could be done here?

Anyone in southern NM interested in free roosters?  My parents have 2 EEs, a GLW, and a buff-laced polish, all about 22 weeks old, that are overly harassing the girls.

If you're interested, PM me.

What do you all think?

Hi Maggie,

That would be lovely.  I live in Albuquerque too and have a good sized back yard (mid-landscaping-project) with a patio.  Maybe we could host an outdoor BBQ at my place.

Another option would be for all of us to meet and go somewhere neat, like the Carlsbad Caverns.  I know it's not chicken related, but those of you who have families could get the kids involved.

Great. Sounds like there is lots of interest in a meet-up somewhere or another. Towns in NM are so spread out it will be a feat to get it to happen, but it is surely worth a try!I've never been to a chicken meeting before so I'm not sure what happens, but food and drinks and general chicken talk can't go wrong, right? What do you all say about shooting for Saturday April 11?
