Blaundee is correct that only 2 eggs hatched. Unfortunately one of the chicks was dead yesterday morning. There was no sign of trauma or pecking, but it was outside the crate so I don't know if it possibly got out in the middle of the night & got too cold. I went to the feedstore & got 3 barred rock chicks so the remaining chick wouldn't be alone. My broody accepted them without problems. I locked them all in the crate together last night to try to avoid any further losses.

Here's a pic with the chick from balundee's egg on the left:

I'm quickly learning chicken math! I currently have Welsummers, Speckled Sussex, Brabanters, Easter Eggers, Dark Brahmas... and an ever increasing list of other breeds I'd like to try.

YAY!  Baby chicks.

Do Americaunas go broody, or do you always use an incubator?

I have two Ameraucana broodies as we speak.  It is easier and safer for me to use my incubator.
