Did anyone listen to WHO 1040?  My mom just called me at work about some guy trying to buy chickens at Shopper's Supply and they wanted him to register or something?  She was trying to tell me about it but I couldn't understand what she was saying.  Thought maybe someone else might know what it was about.

I wasn't listening, but it was possibly on the Jan Mikelson show.  His show is available by podcast on the website.  You may want to see if that is the show it was on.  www.whoradio.com

Hi Amy.  Yes, I may be interested in a quad.  Have some good friends who are looking for some special birds and these would be a perfect fit for them too!

Hey Eric.... I am just getting my first faverolle chicks out of the shell too now.  I think you need a few of those too if you meander up for the next New Ulm swap.

It's not too late to join Mahonri's Easter Hatch! I think it must be the biggest hatchalong ever with over 210 people joined! We are setting Saturday for an Easter weekend hatch!

Another question.  I emailed the iowa poultry assoc. to find out if there are any rules regarding selling eggs and chickens (both live and dead).  I want to put a sign out for fresh eggs and eventually sell chickens and possibly butchered chickes.  But they haven't gotten back to me.  It's been a week.  I was wondering if any of you know any of the rules.  Or doesn't it matter if you're not a business?

Thanks.

There are rules but I'm not sure what they are. I don't sell butchered birds or eggs commercially, just eggs to people I know. I haven't sold live birds to anyone out of state either. I think as long as you meet the testing requirements you can sell at auctions or swaps without too much trouble. There are a lot of rules for selling meat though, especially if you butcher your own.

After doing a search on their website, (IPA), I was able to find information regarding your search however, I failed to note where!  You should also check the Iowa State Code.  That superceeds any other body or organization.  I think there you will find that depending on the size of your flock, or your yearly output of product, you are free to sell as a small producer w/o fees of any kind.  But please do the research and ask the pros!  Call the IPA and listen to the directory, it may have the extension number you need.  Another source would be your local extension office.  Thats what they're there for!
