Pretty loud. I can hear them outside with the windows closed. They are not as bad as a rooster though.

Yes, pretty loud. And I'll warn you, it can be a little creepy where you're outside early in the morning, and out of the silence comes the quail calling.

I don't know what to compare it to. Mine in in a room off the living room below my bedroom the crow dose not bother me at all. And my husband who likes to complain about loud animals has not said anything other then to ask what made that sound. FYI I have a small house and you can hear it everywhere in the house

The noise is deceiving.  i'd say half the volume of a rooster, but less of a song.  I hade one outside in a cage (to break up a fight) and he'd call at 4:30 am and the sound wasn't loud be seemed so at that time of day.  it was creepy.

Once roos have a breeding flock of gals they dont crow as much (they still do but maybe like 3 "look at me"! a day. Where as roos by themselves or with only other roos will crow up a storm.

Also, depending on the bird. I have an A & M roo for as small as he is his crow is ear piercing! Then my jumbo brown and jumbo golden roos sound like they are mumbling and you cannot hear it if you're more than about 20 feet away.
BTW my a & M roo that's relaly loud... he's got a ton of girls so he barely crows as well.

A chicken rooster is way louder, we have 3 acres here and I can hear my coturnix crowing anywhere except for across the creek where the creek noise even muffles out the outside bell ringing when we get a phone call. If you can deal with normal song birds singing you can deal with a coturnix crowing smile

My A&M roo is the loudest of the bunch. Though I guess I like it. Its a neat sound. My brown roo that has 5 ladies to himself rarely crows. My 2 A&M roos share 3 ladies and crow quite a bit.

If you have 2 roos and 8 hens it shouldn't be too bad.

I think it depends on the birds.  I have jumbo browns, and have a couple of offending roos.  2 of them are so loud that they rattle my eardrums.  And they crow the most often!  The rest are fairly quiet.  Their crowing has more of a muffled sound.

The 2 loudest also happen to be the largest, so my fiance and I are currently debating whether to send their noisy butts off to freezer camp or to grit our teeth (we live in a VERY quiet suburban neighborhood) and breed them.

I visited your website and enjoyed seeing you do what I wanted to do at your age.  It took me 25 years to get there.   I enjoy making cheese too and have the goats that help me get there.  Lots of easy cheese recipes!thumbsup
