Chickens and ducks in same coop???

DH came home with baby ducks can they (after fully feathering) be in the same coop as the chickens?? Will this be way too messy??? How will the chickens handle this? Will they completely destroy my ""kinda dep litter" method because they are always so wet and messy in their brooder. Do they "grow" out of some of this?

Newbie to ducks and 1st yr for chickens I have seen picts of them in runs together are the runs together but separate coop??

I have 12 BO chickens(got at farm supply in march) and now 5 Magpie ducks got Saturday(approx 1-2 weeks old ish more or less??)

I personally have ducks with my chickens, it has worked out wonderfuly for over a year now... so I'd say yes... however, I don't leave water in the coop at night because they stay up all night making a very big mess...lol
 
I have my ducks and chickens separated. I asked this same question of the breeder when I got my first set of chicks and ducks. She told me that it would be best to keep them separate because the chickens could roost over the ducks and poo on them during the night. That and the fact that the ducks are not very neat with their water and feed.

I did have the ducks in a brooder (dog crate) in with the ducks until they were feathered. At times I would let them wander around the chicken coop together but one of my roos would go over and peck at the ducks feet. That was pretty much the end of me letting them out together.
 
I have 2 call ducks with my chickens and it works out great. i have tried to separate them but the ducks freak out and squack non stop
 
Ours do fine together, however the ducks WILL make a mess!!!! We tend to give them their own area so they can be as messy as they want, but sometimes they'd just rather go in with the chickens. We have a smaller automatic waterer in the "chicken's" coop to try to prevent the ducks messing it up.
 
I don't leave food or water for my dux & chix overnight so that kind of a mess isn't a problem. Unfortunately the duxs sometimes sleep under the chickens and that can be a problem. Everything resolves itself for 3 of them when they go into their pool but Albert doesn't like immersing himself. So he sits beside the pool and cleans his feathers with bills of water.
 
I tried that once, never again! As a matter of fact, I will never have ducks again, period. Those are the nastiest animals to try to keep in captivity. They belong out in the marsh with steel shot on their rear ends. Keep them separate.
