Hello all,
I have 11 Rouen ducklings that I had to get outside. They are almost 4 weeks old, and spent the first few days in a brooder in my bedroom (had enough of THAT very quickly) then the next 3 weeks in a pen in my shed. I am new to ducks and was told how messy they could be, but honestly didn't realize the extent of the mess (and smell!). I was going insane mucking out the pen every day (sometimes twice a day) so on Tuesday outside they went. Hubby penned in an area of the yard with chicken wire, and we put a large doghouse in the pen so they could get out of the rain/cold if they needed to.
For the past two days it has been quite chilly and we have had lots of rain.
My ducks refuse to stay in the duckhouse, and instead huddle together on the grass! I have put their food in the house, and they will go in to eat, but then come right back out.
The ducks would stay warm and dry inside the house, if only they would use it!
Should I be worried, or is this just a duck thing?
