OK, I have 1 Polish adult hen who is super sweet and really quiet compared to my 5 adult silkie gals. You wouldn't know she ever laid an egg. My silkies are getting so loud in the mornings I am in trouble with my neighbors. One begins to announce her gift and all 5 join in the chorus. Summer is now hear and I am hearing windows close and grumble from over the fence......

What is your experience with Polish hens and noise? I'd appreciate any input as I need to decide on a direction to go in if I keep just a couple of chickens anymore.

Our Polish is also very quiet. She only gets loud when she's hungry or complaining. They tend to be a generally quiet breed. Roosters are supposed to be loud crowers, though, but I wouldn't know.

Patty doesn't even cackle very often. Sometimes she'd cackle for a few seconds prior to laying her egg. Like I said though, the only time she gets chatty is when she's hungry or knows I have treats that I'm not letting her have.

Sadly, her daughter who is a Sultan mix is someone who I can't say the same for. This one has lungs of iron and goes at it all day long.

Thanks! I am glad to hear that. My hen"dinner' only makes noises when she sees me coming with treats as well.:<))

Now I have to choose between some peeps i'de hatched out 10 days ago.

Bantam Sultans and some Standard Polish.
I just love all these top hat breeds. they are so cute when babies and funky when adults.

Tell me about it. I'm currectly in top-hat heaven. My basement has been taken over by 7 chicks, 5 being crested. Sultans are one of my favorite breeds. Even the roos don't cease to amaze me.

They are both said to be quiet. My deceased roo had the sweetest crow. He sounded almost human and it wasn't very loud. I can say for a fact that his noise wasn't a bother when we had to keep him downstairs because of a cold.

At 4 AM we'd hear him start up: "UUR-UUR-URRRRRRRRRRRRRR!"

If my coop was large enough we'd have a seperate space for all of those funky birds.
