Post your Pop Door (and lock) pics

Ah that makes sense as a fail point to protect the motor......
....hopefully if it jams enough to disconnect the pin, it jams enough to stay put and not 'guillotine' down on a chicken<cringe>.

The door is very light. I don't think it would injure a full grown bird. Might be a different story with the little ones though.

I love the simplicity of your door @TerryH !!! Please keep us posted about that add a motor.. that's probably the route I will go too. I've looked at the automatic doors, but they are so expensive. Thanks for the great pictures!
Not sure if you've looked yet, but there are a ton of threads on the add a motor.

Very nice set up... we haven't even thought about how we're going to do our pop door yet. The run is almost done... just have to build a gate... maybe tomorrow. Yay. And the pop door, roosts, nesting boxes and windows will be next. Still a long way to go.
Thank you! (If you were responding to my post... )

For us the nesting boxes will be last, but I figure the girls won't need those until August at the earliest. These last stages with all the tiny details can definitely be exasperating. I'd love to see your setup once it's all done!

Yes, I was responding to yours. :D Yes, I agree about the nesting boxes.. our oldest are only 8 weeks.. so I have some time.. lol It's funny, there is a lot more that goes into these coops than what you might think at first. I've been debating on putting up a thread or something with our progress, but at the current time, our coop is quite ugly... mismatched paint etc.. just to keep the weather out. :/ There are so many cute ones on here.. I'm a little embarrassed. :idunno

Oh please don't be! I think one of the best things about chickens is that they are so wonderfully adaptable. You give them food, water, space, and something to roost on, and they can repay that with so much. They're truly great birds. I'd love to see your coop, warts and all!

Well thank you.. very much. My coop is definitely going to be functional and user friendly. :D And I know the chickens don't care what it looks like, but like I said, there are so many cute ones on here... lol I love my chickens.. already. I can't wait to get the coop 100% finished and the run finished... so I can get them outside in the dirt and sunshine... chasing bugs and digging around. I thought about doing a 'my coop' link, but I'm not sure how to do that... You see it under some people's usernames in the forums.

Pictures of my pop door, open and shut, and the cable that lifts it. I don't have a lock for it, but the 2 X 4 at the door frame allows the door to go lower than the opening so it would be extremely difficult to open it from the outside. I hope I explained that well enough. If not I can try to take additional pictures to illustrate.
Hello! Awesome door! What do you call the funnel shaped piece of metal that the cable passes through. I need to buy one of those to fasten to my outside 2x4

I am just sort of jumping in here without reading through 14 pages of replies. I have never built this design, not yet anyway, but since the day I found this video I put it on my bucket list for the next coop. Looks simple enough, the wood pieces need to be similar but not identical in all ways.

Me too!
Finally got one built a couple years ago, not exactly the same, but same concept...and it's still going strong.
