Essential oils and chickens

I use a 3 or 4 drops of young living oregano oil in almost 5 gallons of water to worm my chickens... young living oils are therapeutic & most of them can be ingested... I take the oregano oil & thieves oil in capsules if I feel like I’m coming down with something and usually I won’t get sick .. I have rubbed young living lavender oil on chicken feet straight , not diluted to calm them down if I have to handle them , without a problem.. I have one that has most of the symptoms of being egg bound, soaking in warm water with Epsom salts, a couple of drops of lavender oil , copaiba, frankincense , and digize...
Not sure what the problem is with her but I pulled her out of the coop Friday night because he wasnt getting down to eat .. I thought she had a foot or leg problem because one leg was tight and the other seemed too relaxed .. I fed her scrambled egg and she didn’t eat any of it .. next morning I fed her laying mash and he didn’t eat so I brought her inside and she had a firm swollen abdomen & hadn’t eaten . I put her in warm Epsom salt water and she jut lay there.. I warmed the water up a couple of times for her because he acted like it felt good , then blowed her dry , trimmed the feathers on her butt so I could see what was going on & gave her an infusion of castor oil before I put her in a trough with shavings & warmed with a heat lamp ... she was in house for 3 hours and no pooping.. yesterday morning she felt better .. because I brought her on porch for a fellow chicken friend to see ... she just sat there a while ..then pooped white/with yellow tint and walked across the yard to talk to the Rooster.. I let her out in the yard today and when I came home to day her abdomen was swollen and firm again ... I read somewhere that it was good for them to exercise if they are egg bound, but I haven’t been able to feel a hard egg.. most of the ailments say she wouldn’t live this long if he had them.. so I’m not urs what is wrong with her... I believe in the young living essential oils so I will keep trying to doctor her ... it would be nice to know more about the problem so I could make a more knowledgeable choice on what oils to use to help her.

Has anyone ever used essential oils on their chickens for injuries or illness? If you have what oils did you use and for what conditons or wounds? Thanks

I'm surprised there is not more info in this thread, I'll keep checking back. I'm new to chickens (live ones anyways) My girls are just over 2 months old at the moment and am looking for preventative uses and possible natural remedies for future issues that come up :)

I use 3 or 4 drops of young living oregano oil in almost 5 gallons of water to worm my laying hens ... about every2 months ... my young chicks from the day I get them , I put a cap of Braggs apple cider vinegar in the small waterers and once a week a drop of young living oregano oil also... a couple of years ago my chicks got coccidiosis and I lost 3 before I found out what it was.., I researched the natural way to get rid of it and used the oregano , yogurt and apple cider vinegar to get the others well . I have put Braggs AC Vinegar and young living oregano in the chick water ever since and haven’t lost any more chicks. Oregano oil is a natural antibiotic, antiparasitic , antiviral , antibacterial ... it is anti almost everything but it Is a very hot oil ... and strong and burns bad ... I do not put it on me or any animals even diluted .., I take it internally in a capsule if I get sick or to prevent sickness and don’t ever want to taste it ... and put it in my animals water very diluted. Use Young living or another brand of therapeutic essential oils that are reputable for being therapeutic and check em out good before you give them to any animals or people to be ingested , inhaled or topically. And they need to be diluted with a carrier oil before using on animals ... cats are real sensitive to most oils, so I would do a lot of research on using the essential oils with whatever species of animal that you will be using them on . There’s a lot of info about using them with dog and horses... but not much that I have found about using them with chickens ...

Dealing with the same situation. I'm up with her at 1 in the morning. She is miserable. Breaks my heart. Soaked her in a hot tub last night, which she seemed to get relief from. Massaged her chest and abdomen periodically to get things moving. No action yet. She's standing up and looks exhausted. I'll go get the T-Away oil and apply it to her feet in hopes that it relaxes her. I wish there was something else I can do for her. I'll keep researching. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
