I have a black, red, white bantam cochins and 2 giant blue cochins

Did not realize until earlier that I have 16 Reds hatched. I knew I had a few, but didnt realize it was 16 of them, lol. Oldest is now around 3 weeks, and looks to be a cockerel, have 11 that are about 10 days old, most of which have black or white ticking in the wings, and I have 4 little ones that hatched this past weekend. Looks like I have a good number of Reds for next Spring, just got to wait and see how they turn out now. Keeping my fingers crossed.

That's great news, Casey!  Keep an eye out for the elusive Black-Tailed Red - you may just be the one to bring them back!!

I had sent him that message awhile back also. The other Carlson Cochin breeder told me she got some BTR birds when working on her Reds. She was working on red and did not keep any. Makes me think there is hope they could be brought back.

If they pop up, and they look good, I will not cull them. Helping to bring back a variety that is essentially extinct would be great. I noticed today I have one pair of Reds, and 3 frizzles. And it looks like 2 of them have split wing, but thats no biggie. Will try and get some pics soon, just want them to feather in a bit more. Just really thrilled to have some good input on this journey.

I am new to bantam Cochins. A friend sent me bantam buff Brahma eggs and added two bantam Cochin eggs and both hatched giving me a pure white and a Mille Fleur rooster. I am in love with these guys love.gif  I think the white rooster is especially nice. They are 8 weeks old. Feedback would be great big_smile.png

Looking good at 8 weeks. But remember, be patient with Cochins, they tend to mature at the pace of a turtle walking through peanut butter. Give it 8 more weeks, he will look like a totally different bird.
