I hatched 6 chicks born on August 15th - my question is when can I merge them with the main flock and how should I go about doing this?

Leghorns are great egg laying chickens. They are friendly to other Leghorns and can easily fly. The only problems is that they are bad in the pecking order and they can make a mess of the yard....

It won't let me quote anything. I only can post if I hit preview. That's only sometimes. I tried to make a new profile but I can't because I use the same email as my other 1. Uggh. I can't post in hardly anything. It tells me I have to put something in the reply box.:(
Can't you change your email on this account to a secondary email, and then create a new profile with your main email?
Anyone going to be at the FOWL FEST in Birch Run, Michigan this Sat/Sun with their cochins to sell or show? I am hoping to find some nice mottled bantam cochins to buy but I am trying to not get my hopes up.

Please READ my thread about FIRE SAFETY. Trying to save as many others from the little mistakes that cost me everything.

OMG that baby in picture #9 with the split breast looking straight into the camera. HA! I can look at that all day. xoxo Annmarie
I see you live at the aproximately same latitude as I do so I expect you will have a fairly cold winter. With fall babies I personally try to keep themout of the adult coop for as long as possible. They just have developed their immune systems like the adult birds, and with a hard winter weather they will be fairly closed up . 4 months was the earliest I added them and then I sectioned offf a corner of the coop. Now I just put any fall babies in my mini coop for the winter.

I have mine in a pen next to the adults I am going to add them too. I NEVER put the young ones in the old birds pen but put the older birds in the young birds pen. I watch closely. Occasionally I have to take out the alpha hen and cage her separate for a while but mostly it works for me.
