Are you certain they're LF? My understanding is, we don't have LF Brown-reds and without them, you can't get lemon blue. Of course that's just in my limited understanding. idunno

NPIP# 31-422 Bantam Cochins - Blue/Black/Splash, Birchen.
It came to me that every time I lose a dog, they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my life, gifts me with a piece of theirs. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."  - Cheryl Zuccaro

There are several people claiming to have LF  Lemon-Blue, but they appear to be Buff x Blue crosses.

Bo Garrett is working on LF Brown Red.  I do not believe he has released any of these.

Candiss has Bantam Lemon-Blue and Brown Red.  They appear to be very nice quality.

Thanks for the excellent clarification dak. You said it much better than I could have.

I love the lemon blue if you take the shortcut and breed buff x blue you dont get the contrast of color nor do they breed true in color.

Lilcrow and Dak are correct.  I think a lot of people get confused when the see the word "Lemon", because they automatically think Buff, or Wheaten, which is incorrect in this case.  The Lemon Blue variety that is SOP recognized is, genetically, Brown Red x Blue, and is based on the Birchen ER alelle.  The term "Lemon" in Lemon Blue refers to the diluting effect of the Blue.

Most Buff birds are based on the Wheaten eWh alelle, and these Buff x Blue crosses would more correctly be referred to as Blue Buffs, or Blue Wheatens.

Lemon Blue is a recognized color Variety in Bantam Cochins.  I believe most of Candiss's Lemon Blue stock originated from Marty McGuire, and they have decent type and color.  I believe swheat is also working with them, and I believe he has also produced some Lemon Blue Frizzles.

Lemon Blue is not a recognized color Variety in Large Fowl Cochins, and as previously stated, first you need a LF Brown Red - and bringing this BR Variety back in LF is a work in progress.  I think most that are selling LF Lemon Blues here will be up front and tell you that they are not true LB's, but rather their versions or projects.

But keep in mind that there is a difference in birds based on the Birchen ER alelle, and birds based on the eWh Wheaten alelle.  Lemon Blues based on eWh make very pretty birds, but they will never meet the SOP description of Lemon Blue.

CoopaCabana,

You are very correct, I bought most of Martys show stock.  He has done a terrific job with them. I prefer a more extreme look like my brown reds, which are a round and as full as most black cochins.  Here are most of the pics I have here at work.  I would love to see some more lemon blues.
