Cochin Thread!!! - Page 863

Yes, they are pure Cochins. Got both of the Lav pullets from Stephanie, and the rooster shipped in from NY. Lost my gorgeous rooster that Stephanie sold me and this was the only guy I could find. Yes, the camera I'm using is a peice of junk. Our Nikon camera is broken right now as it fell off one of my breeding cages and will have to be fixed.

Stephanie, oh I am sorry to hear. But will hopefully be able to get some juvies from you!

I think you're correct - breeding in to a great-typed black will surely help.  Cochinman2005 has a great thread on Self-Blue Cochins - you should find a lot of great information there:

I agree that you need some top quality Blacks to make any improvements. Read the Self Blue Cochin thread for advice and information. Tom has brought his so far in 5 years.

Bantam Cochins in Black, Birchen, Columbian and Buff Columbian. Now also have Sliver Penciled and Partridge. Working on a Silver Laced Project. Gold Laced project, and now a few White and White Frizzle.

Just checking in to let you guys know im ok. We had 2 tornadoes yesterday and one of Wed. The two yesterday didnt do alot of damage, but the one Wed caused alot of damage and left alot of people without homes and any belongings. But considering what happened yesterday in southern IN(where all of my Grandmothers family lives, all ok though) and in West Liberty KY, I feel we got pretty lucky.

A great black will do alot.  - My Self-blue girls aren't much rounder that Fluffy Puffy's and for my first generation I crossed them with a Bo Garret Line roo from Grace McCain. This roo boosted the type emensly. I only got one pullet and 5 roos from last season. I have this pullet and the best roo together now and she has just started laying. wee.gif

I got a lovely pullet from Bo in December to cross with any Self- blue roos from these eggs. Talk about having to be patient!

I need to find the time to take and post pics!

Cochinman is very kind and helpful. He plans to have the Self-blues ready to submit in 2018 and I would love to b a part of the effort.

I've only had them for 2 generations but I'm pretty sure that is a pullet. At that age the roos will look quite a bit different; not have not have much lacing/barring and have more red.

- she is so cute! I love them at that age.
